Winter was long and I wanted to celebrate its demise. So I decided to put a couple new songs on the site.
Paint the Picture is a 20 year old Club of Rome song that I updated both musically and lyrically. When the song was written it was meant as sort of a warning about what could happen to our environment if we didn't make some basic changes. Sadly, 20 years later, the song has gone from scary hypothetical to actual reality and you no longer need to paint the picture in your mind, you can simply look around to see the effects.
Kimber-Lee is a love song I guess, though its focus is really on the sense of loss and inner turmoil that follows the end of summer or a meaningful relationship.

While I continue to try and finalize the new C.D. (Eclectic Take Home Blues) I figured I'd get some more of it on to the website so you could check it out. For now, I've added "Somewhere Like Aberdeen" which features Tom Ward on mandolin,"Flagstaff, Maine" which again features Tom's mandolin playing and also includes Rob Morse on bowed guitar and Jeff Deason on base, "Riverboat Captain" (a world infused, alternative take on an old song of mine, dating back to the Scarecrow Assembly days) and "The Fence" which is a cover of an old Club of Rome tune featuring Myron Samuels on harmonica and Rob Morse on drums. Let me know what you think.

I've got a couple new tunes I hope you'll check out (right here or on the listen page). Myron Samuels supplied his harmonica mastery for "Move On" and then added some saxophone too. "Long August Lament" is an instrumental piece using programs and various instruments that I developed while recooperating from my broken wrist which is now nearly completely healed. Both tunes will likely show up on "Eclectic Take Home Blues" which should be out in a month or so. I'm also getting back into the habit of playing guitar again and will hopefully be a bit more musically active in the very near future.

At last (or is it least) my cast has been removed and I have begun the process of serious rehabilitation (physical therapy and such). I still can't play guitar, or anything else for that matter, but I'm working on it. I've also been working on various production aspects of Eclectic Take Home Blues. It looks like October 1 is now a likely release date. I hope to have some new stuff on the website soon including a cover of an old Club of Rome song called The Fence as well as an instrumental or two. Stay Tuned.

Oh man. Sometimes everything just seems to stop... Broke my wrist the other day trying to get back to second base in a softball game. Sometimes your own stupidity just jumps right out and trips you up. I was out at second and am now out for the season. Eclectic Take Home Blues is now on hold while I recoop. My parts are all recorded and all that remains are the recording of some additional harmonica and saxophone tracks by Myron Samuels, so hopefully the delay will be brief. The website is also suffering from delays. We hoped to have all it's parts seemlessly connected for you buy now, so that you could come here and listen to songs for free (free access) and/or copy them for a small fee (artist compensation). All this time to think has only reinforced my belief that access and compensation are two sides to the same coin, and that both are essential to any viable music industry and other intellectual property right. Hopefully we will be able to provide both. O.K this one handed typing things getting old. I'll keep you updated - Craig (May '04)

Plate 68 continues work on its follow up to Run Aground, tentatively entitled Eclectic Take Home Blues, which is shceduled for release in summer of 2004. Many of the same musicians return though this time things are different. Myron Samuels is back but this time he's blowing harp and some mean saxophone too. Tom Ward also returns but this time he's playing mandolin as well as guitar. Karen Mason also returns and adds some beautiful blues vocals to a track or two. Of course Jeffrey Deason is here as usual but he's added concertina to his ever growing list of musical contributions to Plate 68 (he also plays bass, trombone, guitar, harmonica, and even does some rhythm programming on one track). Rob Morse is here too, playing his share of drums and a little bit of bowed guitar. As for me, I've added much more electric guitar to this C.D., do a bunch of programming, play some banjo, mandolin, and of course Kalimba. My hope is that this C.D. will expand on the directions Run Aground attempted to explore. Still traditional, still alternative and most of all eclectic.
